Places like Auli and Andamans are already among the favorite honeymoon destinations and seem to be overflowing with couples in love. But many a times one wants to spend their time with their significant other in places where love comes from within.
So we said, don’t go to Gulmarg where everyone you see is a couple. Go to Pahalgam where you are the most loving couple. This list comprises of such known and lesser known Romantic places in India which oozes romance and lure you to it. To the singles out there, we haven’t forgotten you. This list is as much for you as it is for the couples. Some of these destinations make for great solo trips to explore your solitude in while being romanced by the place.
1. Lansdowne, Uttarakhand
If your idea of romance is living in a quaint little place right in the middle of nowhere with a mesmerizing view of snow covered mountains and disconnected from most of city’s chaos, then without a doubt, Lansdowne is the place you need to pack for. One of the quietest romantic hill stations in India, this Cantonment town has preserved its beauty and natural surroundings which start to reveal itself right from the drive past the gates of the famous Garhwal Rifles Cantonment. Take a walk through the woods laced with variety of flora and fauna, hike up to Tiffin Top for a breath-taking panoramic view of the town. The town also boasts of Bhulla Tal – a rain water harnessed lake, the Garhwal War Museum and the famous Garhwali Mess along with a few charming old temples, churches and a small market.
2. Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir
Nestled right at the confluence of the Lidder River and the famous Sheshnag Lake, Pahalgam is a hill station cum recreational resort. Amidst the backdrop of the Himalayan ranges, majestic meadows of Baisaram and the gushing snow flowing Lidder River, you can indulge in some fun activities like golfing, trekking, Horse riding and angling. A romantic place in India, literally – this cluster of islands remotely located from the mainland is enough reason for the romantics to rush towards it. A calming silence prevails with an occasional cry of a bird and the gentle sounds of the waves combined with the exotic coral reefs, abundant marine lives, coconut palms, clear waters, sandy shores, ofcourse the lighthouse and exciting water sporting activities to boast, it makes for the perfect place to kindle the romantic fire.

Aizawal, the capital city of Mizoram is a basket of beautiful things.Vantawang Falls, Blue Mountain Phawangpui – the highest peak in Mizoram, Durtlang Hills are just some of the wonders from this basket. Home to magnificent white churches set up on the hills overlooking the city and gorgeous Bamboo forests that one would like to gladly disappear into.
5. Diu
Diu, a little island city tucked away in the midst the Arabian Sea offers seclusion and serenity for the romantic solo traveler. Walk along the seams of the beaches while watching the sunset or take a dip in the Arabian Sea, Diu has all the markings of a quiet Romantic place in India. Daman on the other hand is to reconnect with people after sometime of solitude in Diu. Beautiful churches born out of the Portuguese influence, water activities and shopping for Bamboo mats, baskets, leather products and handmade articles are some of the things you could indulge into.
6. Jaisalmer, Rajasthan
This one’s for the more adventurous romantics who would rather spend time exploring interesting sites than just relax gazing into the horizons. Jaisalmer is one such destination that offers an exciting mix of historical sites, cultural hubs and natural habitats for a complete romantic getaway in India. Sprawling sand dunes, camel safaris, camping in the desert with some delicious traditional cuisine, magnificent palaces, charming ruins of old forts within a large national park to explore. It doesn’t get more romantic than this.
7. Kovalam, Kerala
Known for its backwater treats, Kovalam is the beach hub of Kerala. Beautiful stretches of sand and water,almost secluded and calm with an amazing view and a lighthouse, this place is for those couples who are looking for some quiet and peace of mind. It is also known for its Ayurvedic massages and yoga resorts with a string of budget lodges along the beach. You can experiment with the local cuisine which is laced with Balinese influence while shopping around for jewellery and handicrafts. Relax on the beach and get on some tan in the tropical sun or rejuvenate yourself with a good massage.
8. Mount Abu, Rajasthan
The only hill station in Rajasthan, Mount Abu is like an oasis in the middle of the desert. It is blessed with beautiful mountains and some wonderful waterfalls and lakes. The Sunset Point is one of the popular attractions here but often the vendors around tend to intrude upon your quiet time, instead you could opt for a boat ride across the lake towards the setting sun for a mesmerizing view secluded in the midst of the lake. There is a wildlife sanctuary to explore that houses a variety of fauna and old Hindu and Jain temples for some sightseeing.
9. Gokarna, Karnataka
Don’t let the pilgrimage tag fool you, this place in India has a lot to offer than just holy places for the romantic bone in you. Secluded beaches, lush mountains and dense forests will serenade while you rejuvenate yourself in their company. Kudle, Half-moon, Om and Paradise Beach offer a romantic time on the sea and sand; whether you want to stay indoors in lodges or walk along the beach, you’re treated with a beautiful view of the sunrise and sunset enriching your mind and soul.
10. Sula Vineyards, Maharashtra
What spells romance better than some delicious wine? India’s famous Vineyard located near Mumbai in Nashik offers some of most popular wines in the country. A day spent amidst the beautiful vineyards is a day well spent, add to that tasting the variety of wines in the Tasting room (they even have cheese and chocolate on the menu!) and it doesn’t get better than this. If you get a little tipsy with all the wine, head towards the misty hills that surround the Sula Vineyards where there are resorts to stay over. And if the wine didn’t get the better of you then go for some kayaking in the Gangapur Lake nearby.
